Security and Identity Management Standards in eHealth including Biometrics

Health ICT Industry has the potential to be the third largest industry in the health sector with a turnover of € 50-60 billion globally. European products could represent one third. Many European companies -especially Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs)- will profit from a wide range of new business opportunities. Standardised solutions will foster innovation.

The acceptance of eHealth depends on data security, safety, the protection of privacy and on the trust in the new technologies. The BioHealth project promotes the diffusion, knowledge and understanding of security standards in the area of eHealth.

These are identity management, biometrics and emerging technologies (specifically RFID - radio frequency identification and NFC - near field communication). All the presentations from several meetings and workshops are found here on the BioHealth portal which presently hosts over 530 documents, around 410 links to relevant information, and more than 330 news items on the a.m. issues.

The BioHealth Standards’ Repository provides a directory of eHealth security and identity management standards published by European and international organisations such as CEN, ISO, ETSI, ASTM, etc. The description of the standards helps SMEs to gain information on a standard and to decide whether a standard is of use. About 170 security and identity management standards can be looked up via an advanced search function. All registered users have access to the repository. If you want to be registered please contact us.

BioHealth is sponsored by Europe Innova, a European innovation policy initiative in the context of the EC DG Enterprise and Industry.
